"Unfortunately I cannot get pictures of the feeding of the street children because this is done at night, when the children are on the streets, having nowhere to sleep. Then our Associates go out and serve the cooked lentils and rice, with seasoning added. Elderly street people also get some of this food. One old gentleman took the plate of rice and lentils, looked up and said, 'I don't have to do anything to get this?' 'No, just eat it!' He did not waste time to dig in, and ate it he did!"

"You cannot imagine how much your containers of food are helping the health and physical progress of these poor children and elderly! May God reward you and give you the strength to continue your good work."

Thanks a million! God bless you."

Excerpts from a letter by Mother Joan Clare to Joe Krentz, President, Canadian Food for Children Co-Workers, B. C. Division

CFFC regularly ships containers of food to Mother Joan Clare in collaboration with Universal Aide Society. At times, a container of medical supplies and school supplies are requested.

Food items shipped most frequently include oatmeal, peas, lentils, and flour which are used to feed street children and the elderly as well as squatters at the dump site.

" God will reward you for the food you are sending to us. Our children at the dump sites, squatters areas and the orphanages are grateful, happy and progressing. Please continue to help us. Your food has helped us to cut down on the children's incidence of disease, low resistance to illnesses and especially the epidemic of dengue which is killing off the children. "

Catnon Dump Site at Naga City

Catnon Dumpsite near Naga City is the "home" for families and other homeless people. Each group has a "hole" they dig into the dump which becomes their sleeping quarters. One group stays in there in the daytime and another group at night. These people suffer from boils, asthma, malnutrition, cough, and colds etc. Mother Joan Clare

Mother Joan Clare and the Missionaries of the Poor feed homeless children and families at the dump site. When funds permit, and with assistance from local parish "Adopt a Family" programs, they also build cinder block houses for the homeless at the dump site. These pictures, showing relocation of homeless families to cinder block houses were provided by Shirley Gremyachev from Universal Aide Society who has collaborated with Canadian Food for Children on shipments of food and medical supplies to the Missionaries of the Poor.
