GHANA

"I am very glad to send you distribution pictures on the food you shipped to MDRP (Ministerial Development and Relief Program)... for its relief program in Ghana among refugee women and children. The food was distributed among 30,000 refugees. We are in the process of taking delivery of the second container. It will also be distributed among the same people." continued below

"The oats (shipped from CFFC) have been our major factor in feeding over 20,000 children in Buduburam refugee camp at Kasoa Ghana and Sacred Heart Catholic School at Breman Essiam each day....The oats mainly is the only food we cook each day to feed the kids.

Please Joe I will like to appeal to you and CFFC to ship us more containers of the oats. At least we will need four containers of oats immediately to be able to feed over 20,000 children at the Buduburam refugee camp, which we do each day."

"We wish to convey our thankfulness for the shipment of food sent by Canadian Food For Children early this year. Due to the flooding of the region, many of our villages and towns were flooded, destroying our homes, our churches, our livestock and our crops. Thousands of people were displaced. The food has allowed our citizens to eat nutritious food while waiting for the water to recede...The soya beans, lentils and dried peas, wheat flour and oatmeal (were) distributed through...local churches in the affected communities. Priory was given to HIV/AIDs orphans and those people that are suffering form HIV/AIDS, women and the elderly. H. Biesenback, NCM Disaster Response Chair, Africa Region See full letter

The Govenment in Torit Declares a Looming Disaster
Another starvation crisis is unfolding in Sudan. Joe Krentz received a desperate letter of appeal from the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Torit, Sudan, requesting continued and regular shipments of food to Southern Sudan. The letter states: "The people within the diocese and the State are badly off, the Logir, the Dinga, the Toposa, the Acholi, the Madi, and the Lopit."

Knights of Columbus volunteers helps with loading the container

"This morning I met a team of chiefs from Lopit villages. They expressed their greatest fears of severe hunger that probably has never been seen before. The Paramount chief, Mr. Salvatore said, 'Death is coming and we are dying.' He expressed the deep suffering of death from hunger. He also quoted other villages outside his own that are suffering. He stressed more on the suffering of the neighbouring villages....He said, if neighboring villages have some food, then there would be hope for survival, but at this particular moment, the suffering is general. No village around them has food or promising crops. Therefore, no one can save the other. 'Death is inevitable,' he said."

"To all men and women of good will, we appeal to you for your assistance....We have already lost some family members, can we together save the rest of the majority from the tragedy?"
