to eat nutritious food while waiting for the water to recede...The soya
beans, lentils and dried peas, wheat flour and oatmeal (were) distributed
through...local churches in the affected communities. Priory
was given to HIV/AIDs orphans and those people that are suffering form

SUDAN Father Martin, as the Archdiocesan youth and students' Chaplain for Juba, Sudan, came to British Columbia to collect books for a school and library and to raise awareness of the plight of civilians in his area as "a
consequence of the prolonged, devastating civil war in southern Sudan." Father Martin reported on the "deplorable

Soldiers
in Juba
"The youth...are
the most hard hit as many were forced to fight a war they did not want
to get involved in and many have lost their lives. Many of them go without
education as most of them either lost their parents...or were separated
by the war."
Ammo Dumps in Town
"For
the suffering children who go without food and education, we intend to build
a hostel where we can accommodate, feed them and provide at least basic education... The books donated will help us establish a youth library
which will be the first of its kind in the town and some will be used for teaching
in the Adult Education Programme we shall open."
